“Google Docs”

            Google Docs also called Google Drive is an open source program. It allows someone to make documents with its own version of the many different word programs. Although they are not exactly the same because, that would be illegal. It allows you to make documents, pictures, spread sheets, presentation, and forms. You can share these documents with teachers, your boss, or whoever you want to see what you are working on.

            Google Drive has affected businesses since it was created. On Google Drive someone is able to share documents with multiple people. This can be helpful because if you are working on a business project you can share it with everyone you are working with and your boss so they can check up on the progress you are making. Also the different types of programs that can be used helps businesses. A business can use Google Drive to make documents, slide shows, spread sheets, or forms. This allows for everyone to be working on one aspect of a project at a time. Also Google Drive saves the document as you work and work with people without being with each other. This is more affective because if your computer just shuts down your work will be saved. Also all you need is Wi-Fi to access these documents. Since, you are able to work with people without being together you are able to work more efficiently than having to get everyone together at one place. Although a negative is that there could be miscommunication caused by lack of face to face communication. Also if your work doesn’t save you can lose everything you already had done.

            Although, Google Drive does not really affect someone’s social life. When working on a project together on Google Drive there is a chat bar on the right side of the screen. This allows whoever the project is shared with to communicate as they work. Also since Google Drive is on the internet someone can access it any time as long as they have Wi-Fi. This allows people to go out to get something to eat or drink while still being able to access their document on their phone. If someone is working with Microsoft they do not have this advantage. They cannot access their document from anywhere they would need their computer or a flash drive with their work saved on to it. Due to there not being much face to face contact, Google Drive can cause a lack of social communication.

            Also, Google Drive impacts entertainment but no a whole lot. Since Google Drive has a sharing aspect a director of a movie can share the script with the whole cast instead of printing a script for each person their own script. This can save paper and be a more efficient way of getting every cast member a script. Although, if the director forgets to share the script with a cast member it will take him or her longer to learn his lines then the rest of the cast. Also someone can share media files with whoever they want to. This allows someone to share new videos and previews of new movies coming out. Although, depending on who sees the media clips it may not make a huge impact on entertainment.

            Google Drive has a minimal impact on the news. Google Docs can be used to share breaking news articles with the cast. Besides this Google Docs cannot be used to affect news.

            Google Drive cannot be used for fun therefore it has no recreational use.

Facebook

            Facebook is a social networking site that has grown to be the biggest social networking site. Facebook has a free sign-up for anyone of age. There are currently 1,110,000,000 Facebook users. Out of these users the spend 700 billion minutes a month combined on Facebook. With the amount of time people spend on Facebook, Facebook is able to make a tremendous impact on society.

            Facebook is able to impact the business world through advertisements. Facebook has reached over one million companies using Facebook for advertising. Although not everyone may click the link even if one percent of the users click the link over one million people will see the business through advertisements. Although advertising on Facebook could get expensive for businesses. Since there are so many businesses using Facebook for advertising Facebook could increase the prices they charge for advertising. Businesses may also lose money if nobody buys their product even though they are paying for the advertising. Although business can also make their own Facebook page. This is cheaper than paying for advertisements. This could be beneficial if people share the businesses links and like the page. This will allow business to advertise for cheaper prices. Also since there are so many users on Facebook good or bad news about a corporation could spread faster than on other social networks.

            The main purpose of someone getting a Facebook is for social uses. Since there are so many people on Facebook people are able to interact with most if not all of their friends. You can talk to their friends; see what they are doing, or what pictures and videos they have liked. Although Facebook can cause problems for someone using it. If you connect your Facebook to your phone number and email you could end up receiving unwanted phone calls, texts, or emails. Also people have gotten their identities stolen on Facebook. This could ultimately ruin someone’s financial situation. Also people have been denied from colleges because of what they had on Facebook. If someone is not careful and ends up posting inappropriate pictures or posts they may get turned for future jobs or college.

            Entertainment businesses can also use Facebook to advertise new movies coming out. A company could post preview for their movies and get people excited for their upcoming releases. This will convince people to go out and watch the movie in the theaters. This will allow the company to make more money than they would without advertising on Facebook.

            Facebook also affects news. Due to Facebook having a large number of users, news is able to spread faster and easier to almost the whole world then if Facebook was not used. Facebook is able to spread news faster through its users than Twitter. Although this could be a negative if incorrect news is spread. False news could spread about a company or person and ruin their image even if it is not true.

            Facebook is also used by its users for recreational purposes. Users can play a variety of virtual games on Facebook. They can play with or without friends whether they want to or not. Although these games can get addicting and someone could spend hours playing the same game without taking breaks.

“LinkedIn”

            LinkedIn is asocial networking site that is designed for business professionals. LinkedIn is allows someone to share work-related information with the other uses and keep an online list of professional contacts. LinkedIn allows you to create a custom profile. However, profiles created within LinkedIn are business-oriented rather than personal.

            LinkedIn has affected the business world since it was created. LinkedIn allows you to stay in touch with your colleagues. This can be helpful because they can stay in touch and discuss their current job when you are not at the workplace or face to face with each other. This could allow for a job to be get it done quicker because you can discuss the plan and steps to get the job done when you are not at work. LinkedIn can also be helpful because it allows big companies to see your professional résumé. The downside to LinkedIn is if you have bad report or put your personal information on your profile there are a lot of big companies who can see your profile. If you have something bad on your profile it could cause you to lose your job or not get one later on.

            LinkedIn does not have a big impact on society. This is because LinkedIn is used mostly for business purposes. People who sign up do not put their personal information on the site because of who can see it. There for LinkedIn does not have a big impact socially.

LinkedIn also affects the entertainment industry. Since there are entertainment corporations on LinkedIn people can apply to the company. People who are looking to get a job in the entertainment industry can sign up for LinkedIn and put their résumé on their profile. If the corporation likes their résumé they could hire them. The downside to LinkedIn is if your profile is bad you may not get a job in the entertainment industry that you wanted. Another downside is if the corporations profile is bad people may not want to work for them or buy their products.

The news industry is not really affected by LinkedIn. Since LinkedIn is made for business uses one way LinkedIn can be used for news is by getting news on corporations with their own account. This could help or hurt the business depending on the news. If the news is good on LinkedIn more people will try to get a job there or buy products from the business. If the news is bad it could hurt the business. People with a LinkedIn that see the information may not want to work for the company or buy the company.

            LinkedIn can be used for recreational use but not too often. People may be able to get jobs that they enjoy doing and has a high salary. This will allow someone to do something that they view as fun while getting paid a good amount.

            Overall LinkedIn makes most of its impact on businesses. Since LinkedIn can help people find jobs it helps business hire more people and have less unemployment in America. Ultimately LinkedIn could also impact the economy.

The Good and Bad of Twitter

            When Twitter was first created in 2006, it did not catch on with the media trends. Now Twitter is one of the most used social networks in the media. Twitter allows someone with an account to make status updates about what they’re doing, read what they’re friends are doing, and see what is trending throughout the world. There are currently 554,750,000 million active users on Twitter. Twitter has many different uses although people need to be careful with what they tweet.

            Businesses can use Twitter for many different uses. One thing businesses use Twitter for is to advertise their business. Businesses can pay for their Twitter account to show up on someone’s timeline or the business can pay to get their business on the top trending list so the whole world can view the business. Although Twitter can help a business it can also hurt a business because it is such a largely used network.  Good news surrounding a business will spread fast on Twitter helping a business but, the bad news can also spread faster than they would without social networks. The bad news spreading fast can hurt or ruin a company’s reputation.

            Twitter has also impact social life tremendously. There are currently 554,750,000 people on Twitter. People have friends and idols on Twitter. Such idols include athletes, actors, and any other celebrities. The good thing is most people can communicate with friends or anyone in the world that has a Twitter. The bad thing is anything you say cannot be taken back. People have been arrested because of what they put on Twitter and athletes have been fined by their league commissioner. Twitter uses who see their role model tweet or act a certain way on Twitter are more likely to act like that so these celebrities that use Twitter need to keep in mind what the repercussions are for their tweet.

            Twitter also has an impact on the entertainment industry. Twitter allows users to interact with their favorite actors and celebrities. Celebrities can advertise their movies and they can tell people were they will be. This will allow for free publicity for the celebrities that want to put information out in the public. This publicity good be good or bad. This means Twitter could help or hurt the entertainment industry.

The Twitter account @BreakingNews is a Twitter account with over 6 million followers. Whenever this account tweets breaking news over 6 million people will be able to read it within seconds. This allows big news stories to be spread faster than it would be without Twitter. Although the downside to this is the news could be inaccurate. If the news is inaccurate people may make rash decisions that affect their daily life.]

 

            People can use Twitter for recreational uses. People can find it fun to interact with different people they would not normally interact with off of Twitter. An abuse of this could be stalking another person. By stalking someone on Twitter someone could get arrested if they threaten another person.
